Currently, MUN pays Academic Staff Members (ASMs) over 3.5 million dollars in “Market Differentials”, a discretionary salary top-up which is in addition to Basic Annual Salary as defined in the Collective Agreement. This amount translates to an annual salary for 65 additional Assistant Professors paid at $54,810 per annum, one step above the floor for this rank. MUNFA’s salary proposal presented to the administration on 16 May 2006 would limit market differentials to about 1/3 of the current level, and go some considerable way in restoring transparency, fairness and equity in salaries at MUN.
