MUNFA Members Authorize Executive to Call a Strike; Deadline Announced

In the strike vote taken on Wednesday, January 18, the MUNFA membership voted to authorize your Executive Committee to call a strike if the committee deems it necessary to do so.

The results of the vote were as follows:

                        Votes to approve: 90%

                        Votes to disapprove: 10%

                        Participation: 93% of membership

The Executive Committee is pleased with this show of support from the membership for the Negotiating Committee. It is the hope of the executive that, with this strong result showing the unity of MUNFA members and their readiness to take job action if they are not treated fairly, the administration will return to the bargaining table ready to make a deal that will work for MUN.

The Executive, on recommendation of the Negotiating Committee, has set a deadline of 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 30, 2023, as the date on which a strike will begin if a deal is not forthcoming.

Negotiations with the administration’s bargaining team, and facilitated by the conciliation officer, are scheduled to resume on Monday, January 23. The MUNFA executive and negotiating committees believe that with serious effort from both parties, all outstanding issues can be resolved before the strike date.

Members who have questions about what a strike would entail are advised to consult the Strike FAQ posted on the MUNFA website (link here). For further information, contact munfa@mun.ca.
