We have in the past, brought to MUNFA’s attention cases where Academic Staff Members (ASMs) have expressed concern about health and safety issues in their workplace. Ideally, Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) issues will be dealt with through the regular channels offered through university resources such as the Department of Health and Safety (ext. 3659) or through consultation with one’s immediate supervisor/Head or site-based Health and Safety Committee, or the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee. Failing that, an ASM may choose to contact MUNFA (and its Academic Freedom and Grievance Committee) or communicate with the university president.
We wish to remind members that in cases where resolution remains elusive, or cases in which immediate danger exists without resolution, the issue can always be referred anonymously to Service Newfoundland at the contacts provided below:

MUNFA appreciates being kept abreast of OH&S issues in your workplace and unresponsiveness on the part of the university administration.
