President’s Message – #FundMUN Campaign Update

Dear MUNFA Member,

I am writing you today to provide an update on our #FundMUN Campaign.

On September 24, our union stood with student and labour unions to launch our campaign calling on the Furey government to stop the cuts and restore funding to Memorial University. The campaign launch garnered significant media and public attention.

MUNFA #FundMUN Town Hall

On September 27, our union held a Town Hall to update members on the campaign, answer questions, and have a general discussion about the impact funding cuts are having on our public university and the work our members do.

Members shared their stories and their frustrations on how funding cuts to Memorial are impacting their work, their research, their teaching, their ability to do intramural and committee work, and their physical and mental health. Members in attendance expressed support for the goals and aims of the campaign.

Show Your Support

In this phase of the campaign, there are two tangible ways that our members can be engaged and show their support:

  1. Visit the campaign websitewww.fundmun.ca

Send a message to your Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) and Premier Furey. Members can send a form message or write their own. The process is easy and takes less than two minutes.

We know that MHAs are getting and responding to these messages so the more we can send, the stronger our campaign will be.

The website also allows members of the University Community and the general public to anonymously share their stories, pictures, etc…

     2. Get a poster for your academic unit/door:

We have developed a variety of posters that you can view – HERE (with more to come)

Please reach out via email to membership.munfa@mun.ca

We will continue to work with our coalition partners to keep the pressure on the provincial government to restore funding to Memorial University.

Please stay tuned for further updates and thank you to everyone who has requested/put up a poster and sent a message to their MHA.

In solidarity,

Ash Hossain

President
