Statement of Solidarity with Communities Opposing Racism

The Memorial University Faculty Association (MUNFA) voices our strong solidarity with people and communities opposing anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, and racism in all its forms, and police brutality.

The unfolding events in the United States are a manifestation of white privilege and the oppression of racialized peoples that also has a long history throughout Canada and in Newfoundland and Labrador. Its legacies continue to cause harm today and include, among others, the many unresolved cases of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, the vastly disproportionate incarceration of Indigenous men and women in this country, and environmental racism. We condemn racist discrimination and oppression in these and all its forms.

MUNFA is proud to stand with other labour organizations across Canada, the United States, and around the world, as they organize against police violence and racism, including the use of disproportionate force to suppress public protests against militarized police brutality and institutionalized racism.
