Before negotiations in 1999, for the purposes of comparing salaries at other Canadian universities, MUNFA and MUN agreed to use the “comprehensive” grouping in the MacLeans University Rankings, which includes Memorial. Universities included in this group, for which Statistics Canada median salary data are available, are Carleton, Simon Fraser, Guelph, University of New Brunswick, Regina, Victoria, Waterloo, Windsor and York. Based on this data for 2004-2005, MUN salaries at all ranks are at least 10% below those of the comprehensive grouping. If Memorial is to continue to recruit and retain ASMs (Academic Staff Members) this salary disparity must be eliminated.
