As per the Information Bulletin (http://munfa.ca/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/2016.17.35.pdf) of April 5, 2017, MUNFA sent a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to the University on April 13, 2017. This MOU sought a guarantee that the restructuring of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) will not be used to justify ASM layoffs or the eradication of academic disciplines (MUNFA’s MOU).
On April 19, 2017, MUNFA received a response from the University declining to sign the MOU on the basis that the University “feel[s] that the MOU is unnecessary because the intent of the proposed integration of academic units is not to eliminate academic programmes or reduce the number of ASMs.” The full text of the University’s response can be found here: (MUN’s Response).
MUNFA encourages all ASMs in HSS to consider this information should they be asked to vote on mergers and amalgamations of Departments within the Faculty.
