The MUNFA Executive Committee will be hosting a Town Hall for all members on the subject of the recent appointment of Academic Staff Members (ASMs) to Memorial’s Board of Regents.
On August 18, 2023, an Information Bulletin was sent out to members detailing this process, the restrictions within the Memorial University Act and the Board of Regent’s Code of Conduct, and the subsequent limitations to true collegial governance. For more information please also see MUNFA’s submission for a review of the Memorial University Act from 2021.
The purpose of the Town Hall is to provide clarification to members on the challenges facing these appointees, the implications of these restrictions, and provide a forum for discussion and feedback on how MUNFA should move forward.
CAUT representatives will also be in attendance to help place the limitations at Memorial within the broader national context of how other faculty unions are represented on their respective Board of Regents.
The Town Hall will be held on September 22, 2023, 11 AM to 1 PM Newfoundland time. The meeting will be held virtually.
