On 27 January 2012 the administration circulated a Memorandum regarding Copyright and Fair Dealing. This follows earlier correspondence indicating that the university has adopted the policy developed by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). While Dr. Wardlaw’s memo says “Memorial has developed a Copyright Policy,” it is worth noting that this policy did not follow the normal Policy on Policies Framework and it is not listed on MUN’s list of Policies; however, there is a policy on Use of Copyright Material approved May 19, 2011.
That aside, we wish to point out that we disagree that the AUCC guidelines are an accurate interpretation of copyright law. We again, call your attention to CAUT’s Guidelines for the Use of Copyright Material (see http://www.caut.ca/uploads/Copyright_guidelines.pdf).
