“By now you are no doubt aware that one of our members, Professor Homa Hoodfar of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, has been imprisoned in the notorious Evin Prison in Iran. We urgently and desperately need your help to pay for our current media campaign for her unconditional and immediate release. We come to you with cap in hand in the hope that you might contribute something to our fight for Homa’s freedom; any amount you can manage will be graciously received and will go a long way, both to helping us bring Homa back to safety and to showing the nation, if not the world, that academic freedom is worth fighting for…”
