EngageNL Questionnaire

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is currently inviting public input to help inform upcoming provincial budget decisions.[EngageNL Budget Questionnaire]

Although this survey does not include a dedicated section on post-secondary education, we encourage members to use the open-ended questions (#10,11,13) to highlight the need for stable, predictable public funding for Memorial University.

The EngageNL Budget 2026 Questionnaire closes on February 18.

Current provincial operating funding for Memorial University is not effective in supporting a stable, high-quality public university system. Funding levels have not kept pace with inflation, enrollment shifts, or Memorial’s provincial mandate, and this has contributed to ongoing cuts, hiring restrictions, and program instability. In addition, the growing reliance on one-time or short-term funding announcements, rather than predictable, multi-year base funding, makes long-term academic planning extremely difficult. Universities plan programs, research, and student supports over many years, and unstable funding undermines Memorial’s ability to serve the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
