President’s Update: MUNFA Welcomes Dr. Robin Whitaker as CAUT President

MUNFA is thrilled to extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Robin Whitaker on her election to the role of President of the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) at its recent Council Meeting, held May 1–3, 2025 in Ottawa.

Dr. Whitaker, a faculty member in Memorial University’s Department of Anthropology, brings her extensive experience and long-standing commitment to academic staff advocacy and progressive leadership to the national stage. Her election marks an exciting moment – not only for CAUT, but also for our own community at Memorial.

A former MUNFA President (2017–2019), current Vice President of CAUT and President of National Union of the Canadian Association of University Teachers (NUCAUT), Robin has consistently championed the rights of Academic Staff Members, both locally and across Canada. We have been proud to stand alongside her in countless advocacy spaces, from provincial funding battles and picket lines to national campaigns for academic freedom and equity.

MUNFA celebrates this milestone and looks forward to continuing to work with Dr. Whitaker in her new role, as she leads the national movement for post-secondary education workers.

Congratulations, Robin!

In Solidarity,

Ash Hossain

President, MUNFA
