President’s Update, Feb. 12: Negotiations for Back-to-Work Protocol Continue
January 1, 1970MUNFA requested the employer to meet with us today at 11 am to negotiate and settle a back to work protocol. Unfortunately, the employer indicated they were unavailable to meet until 2 pm. MUNFA passed a draft protocol to the employer at approximately 1:30 pm today. A discussion with the employer began at 2 pm and a reply on paper was sent to MUNFA at approximately 4:30 pm. The negotiations are continuing at this very moment.
At this point, we believe classes will NOT restart on Monday February 13. However, as noted in an IB to members yesterday, pickets are suspended.
Separate from the back-to-work protocol, the administration and MUNFA will continue the complex process of editing the final text of the tentative agreement. When that is complete, the full agreement will be circulated to all members, a special information meeting will be called, and a ratification vote arranged.
I know all of you are eager to get full details and these things will be forthcoming as quickly as possible. We are confident that this is a very good agreement; our collective action has resulted in significant gains in all four of our priority negotiating areas, on top of the concessions from the employer made after the strike vote and in the lead-up to job action.
More details will follow from the administration and your MUNFA colleagues.
In love and solidarity,
MUNFA President Ash Hossain
