Compensation for Extra Teaching

SUBJECT: Compensation for Extra Teaching

The MUNFA Office has been receiving inquiries about ASM rights and obligations when it comes to compensation for extra teaching.

The MUNFA Executive reminds all ASMs of the language in Clauses 31.27 to 31.30 of the Collective Agreement related to the teaching of extra course(s) or equivalent. Specifically, it is the choice of the ASM whether to receive payment or a future remission for the assigned extra work. As per Clause 31.27, an ASM being considered for additional work under Clause 31.27 “shall advise the University of their compensation choice, at which time the University shall have the option of seeking an alternative teacher.”

The choice for remuneration rests with the ASM being considered for the extra work. The MUNFA Executive reminds the membership that ASMs can’t be forced into choosing the payment over banked time and vice-versa.
