Call for Negotiating Committee and Job Action Committee Members
May 15, 2026With the current Collective Agreement concluding on August 31, 2026, MUNFA is now seeking expressions of interest from members who wish to serve on two committees that will be central to the next round of Collective Bargaining: The Negotiating Committee and The Job Action Committee. Both Committees play essential roles in securing a fair Collective Agreement, and strong member participation makes both stronger.
MUNFA Negotiating Committee:
The Negotiating Committee is responsible for:
- Conducting negotiations with Memorial University’s bargaining team;
- Reporting to members and the MUNFA Executive on the progress of bargaining; and
- Making recommendations to the membership and the MUNFA Executive on tentative agreements.
The Negotiating Committee will consist of at least seven (7) members appointed by the MUNFA Executive. The Executive is committed to ensuring the Committee reflects the diversity of our membership. We are especially seeking representation from Grenfell Campus, Teaching Term ASMs, Regular Term ASMs, and members from a range of Academic Units. One seat is open to a member of the bargaining unit at large. We especially encourage members of equity-seeking groups to consider this important role.
Members occupying any seat are expected to serve until a Collective Agreement is signed.
If you are interested in joining the MUNFA Negotiating Committee, please contact the MUNFA office at munfa@mun.ca by 4:30 pm on May 29, 2026.
Job Action Committee:
While it is MUNFA's hope that a mutually satisfactory Collective Agreement can be reached through good-faith bargaining, the Association must be prepared in the event that job action becomes necessary. To that end, MUNFA is also seeking volunteers for the Job Action Committee (JAC).
The JAC is responsible for coordinating all aspects of potential job action, including:
- Strike pay and all related expenses;
- All aspects of picketing;
- and securing and operating a strike headquarters.
The JAC will establish sub-committees focused on each of these three core responsibilities, as well as a dedicated sub-committee for Grenfell Campus. All MUNFA members are welcome and encouraged to volunteer. A well-organized JAC is essential to any successful job action.
We especially encourage members of equity-seeking groups to volunteer. As per Clause 1.20 of the MUN/MUNFA Collective Agreement, an ASM’s service to the Association is deemed academic service as set out in the appropriate articles of the Collective Agreement.
If you are interested in joining the Job Action Committee, please contact the MUNFA office at munfa@mun.ca by 4:30 pm on May 29, 2026.
