This event was organized in direct response to the Administration's announced review of Memorial's faculty and school structures. A review of this scale raises real questions about how decisions affecting academic units, programs, and our colleagues' positions will be made and about the role ASMs will have in making them.

Shared governance is often discussed within our hallways and meeting rooms, but it is not always well understood, and there is misinformation about what it means in practice. Shared governance is not a courtesy extended by the Administration. It is the normal operating standard at universities across Canada, and it requires that academic staff have a genuine role in shaping academic decisions before they are made.

The presentation will cover what standard practice on shared governance looks like at universities across the country, and what stronger shared governance could make possible at Memorial. Decisions about Memorial's academic future are being contemplated now, and our members deserve clear, evidence-based information about the standards those processes should meet.

We hope you will join us, and we encourage you to share this invitation with colleagues.
