SUBJECT: Computer Budget Restrictions/Issues
The MUNFA Executive is aware that many Academic Units are restricting budgets for Academic Staff Member (ASM) computer purchases and renewals to $1000/ASM, with any additional funds required for computer purchases to be defrayed by an ASM’s Professional Development and Travel Expense Reimbursement (PDTER) or grant funds.
ASMs are reminded of Clause 26.17 of the Collective Agreement which obligates the University to provide ASMs with computers and software for their University work. The MUNFA Executive would also like to remind ASMs of MUNFA’s previous grievance on computer provision that was settled on the basis that all ASMs must be provided with functioning computers and access to printing facilities – HERE
The MUNFA Executive understands that ASMs in some units may not require computers that exceed the budgeted $1000 amount. However, in the event that an ASM requires a computer for their University work that exceeds the budgeted amount, and if the request is either denied or the ASM is expected to defray any of the costs with non-operating funds, they are asked to contact MUNFA at munfa@mun.ca
